Multiple suspects hunted after jewelry store at Richmond Hill mall robbed

A jewelry store at a shopping mall in Richmond Hill was targeted by robbers on Saturday afternoon, York Regional Police say.

No one was physically injured during the incident at Hillcrest Mall, and police say multiple suspects had fled.

It was not immediately clear if any items were taken from the store. No suspect descriptions have been released.

The store joins a list of other jewelers in the Greater Toronto Area that have been robbed over the past few months.

Two weeks ago, an off-duty officer was pepper-sprayed while trying to stop suspects who robbed a jewelry store at Scarborough Town Centre.

Two suspects used hammers to smash display cases and grab items from the shop, police said.

Prior to that, a Cartier store at Yorkdale Shopping Center was also a target of a smash-and-grab robbery. One suspect allegedly used pepper spray, while two others shattered display cases with hammers. Police said they took a “large quantity” of jewelry.

The same week, a jewelry store at Bramalea City Center in Brampton was targeted by robbers for the second time.

Police said three suspects armed with hammers shattered display cases while a fourth suspect waited in a getaway vehicle.

David Webb Celebrates Its 75th Anniversary in Jewelry

“David Webb is unquestionably one of the leading 20th-century American jewelry designers,” Medill Higgins Harvey, associate curator of American decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, said, “distinguished by his originality, the bold sculptural quality of his work, and the distinctive way in which it reveals a keen and nuanced sense of history and art history, as well as current trends and tastes.”

Ms. Harvey’s assessment echoes a lot of voices in the jewelry world as the American jeweler’s company marks its 75th year.

Since Mr. Webb’s death in 1975, his original designs have remained in production — and in demand — through the Silberstein family’s ownership and now that of Mark Emanuel and Robert Sadian, who acquired the business in 2010.

“We understood that we were buying a great American brand that had all kinds of legs and silos to it, and also a great deal of blue sky and potential,” Mr. Emanuel said.

Born in Asheville, NC, Mr. Webb was just 23 years old in 1948 when he opened his shop on West 46th Street in New York. In Mr. Webb’s heyday from the late ’50s through the ’70s, his jewels were worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline

Robber shot by employee inside Chicago Loop jewelry store

CHICAGO (CBS) – A man trying to rob a jewelry store in the Loop Saturday morning was shot by an employee inside, and it was all captured on surveillance cameras inside and outside the store.

The incident happened just before 11 am on Jeweler’s Row, in the 0-100 block of North Wabash Avenue.

Surveillance video shows the would-be robber, who wore a red sweatshirt, walking around for about a minute before he took off running toward the entrance.

He began to bash in a glass case, and that’s when the employee reached behind the counter and began shooting at the man before he tried to get away.

Footage from outside the store shows him stumbling out, then running back in to grab what appears to be a small bag before taking off up the stairs to the CTA.

Police say shortly after that, a man was placed into custody and taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound, where he was reportedly stabilized.

The employee is a FOID card and concealed carry license holder.

“I think throwing all the responsibility on the business owners or the residences is really not the right way to go,” said Christine, who did not

Yorkdale mall jewelry store robbery: TPS search for 4 suspects

Toronto police are searching for four suspects wanted in connection with a “brazen” smash-and-grab jewelry store robbery on Wednesday.

It happened just before 8:45 pm, in the Yorkdale Road and Dufferin Street area at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

Officers said four suspects went inside a mall jewelry store when one suspect brandished a handgun and pointed it at employees. Meanwhile, the other suspects allegedly began smashing the glass display cases with hammers.

Police said an undisclosed quantity of jewelry and cash was obtained.

The four suspects took off in a vehicle.

Members of the Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad started an investigation, and released images of the suspects to identify them.

Police describe the four male suspects as being around five-foot-eight with slim builds, who were all wearing masks, gloves and dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Speaking to reporters at an unrelated press conference Thursday, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw called the latest jewelry store robbery an indication of “the challenges we’re facing as a city as it relates to people’s sense of safety and security.”

“Statistically, we examine these things very carefully. We see there’s a rise in crime, as I said, and in violent crime,
