Julia Roberts on Designing Chopard’s Luxe Jewelry Line

Julia Roberts is sitting on a cozy chocolate-colored sofa in a villa at West Hollywood’s Sunset Marquis two days before the Oscars, gazing affectionately at her newest project. “This is all me,” she says, pausing for a moment and then flashing her unmistakable megawatt grin to confirm that she is, in fact, just kidding.

The Oscar winner did, however, have a hand in the creation of what’s elegantly placed on a luxe tray in front of her: a three-piece Chopard high jewelry set consisting of a necklace, earrings and oversized ring (all one of a kind) featuring emeralds, turquoise and rubellite gemstones. The star here — aside from the A-lister who signed on to co-design the collection — is an emerald. Specifically, Chopard’s ethically mined Insofu emerald, a 6,225-carat Zambian stone purchased in rough form by Chopard, from which the green stones have been cut.

The Jeweler Hemmerle Is Leaving its 120-Year-Old Boutique

“It has been challenging but we have learned so much from aluminum,” Ms. Hemmerle said. “Sometimes you need to walk through a new door to find out what is behind it.”

In the construction of the earrings, Mr. Hemmerle said, art connoisseurs may find echoes of the art of Agostino Bonalumi, Paolo Scheggi and Enrico Castellani, postwar Italian artists known for their spatial experimentation and whose work inspired the jewelry.

“The Hemmerles use cultural themes as the inspiration for their unique collections,” Max Fawcett, the head of jewels at Christie’s Geneva, wrote in an email. “They have created their own iconic style which resonates with collectors, easily recognizable among the huge variety of choices that are on offer today.”

Hemmerle does not disclose prices, and its jewelry rarely appears at auction. In November, Christie’s Geneva sold a pair of pinkish-red spinel earrings and a matching ring by Hemmerle for a total of 541,800 Swiss francs (about $612,500), far exceeding the combined presale high estimate of 295,000 francs.

Hemmerle produces only about 200 pieces a year, each made only once, and typically each piece’s fabrication requires more than 500 hours of work. It has had its own workshop since its founding,

California couple followed home for 16 miles and robbed of ‘generations of jewelry’

Robbers followed a Southern California couple home for miles and ripped valuable heirloom jewels out of the woman’s hands in a terrifying attack partly caught on tape, officials said Wednesday.

Dr. Vijay Wali and his wife, Dr. Jyotika Wali, had just pulled into their driveway in Fullerton on Friday night when two men attacked, one pouncing on each of them, the family said.

The couple had just visited a jewelry store 16 miles away in Cerritos to have various family jewels polished.

As Jyotika was about to go into the house and Vijay was unloading the trunk, a man ran right at him, he said.

“So I started screaming, ‘Jyotika, Jyotika, Jyotika, lock the door, lock the door, lock the door,'” Vijay Wali said in an interview Tuesday night.

The man punched Vijay Wali in the head and threw him on the ground, he said. When his wife returned to help, another attacker went right at her, the couple said.

The couple’s daughter, Dr. Priyanka Wali, was in the house. She said the first attacker shouted “take it from her, take it from her” at the second assailant in Spanish.

Jyotika Wali said: “I was immediately attacked by another man,

A Woman’s Humble Antique Market Find Sells for $15,000 At Auction

An amateur jewelry enthusiast was amazed when a Victorian brooch she bought for just £20 ($25) at an antiques market in the 1980s sold at auction for £11,780 ($15,000), including fees. The piece was identified as a rare treasure on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshowcausing jewelry expert Geoffrey Munn to exclaim “my pulse is racing” at the exceptional discovery.

On the show, Flora Steel described how she chanced upon the brooch in 1988 and was drawn to its eye-catching and colorful design formed of precious stones such as lapis lazuli, orange coral, and green malachite. It would be decades, however, before she realized the piece was more than just a pretty bauble.

Over a decade ago, Munn made a special appeal on Antiques Roadshow‘s “Most Wanted Finds” segment, imploring anyone in possession of one of nine brooches made in 1864 by Neo-Gothic Victorian architect William Burges to come forward. He presented a series of sketches from the archives of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London showing the nine designs.

Although the whereabouts of the original pieces were unknown, Munn hoped to aid in their discovery. He described them as the “holy grail of 19th-century design.” Many years later,

This Viral Jewelry Box is the Organizer You Didn’t Know You Needed |

In my heart, I am an accessories fanatic. I love to dress up an outfit with a few layered necklaces and a stack of bracelets — although earrings are my favorite piece to experiment with. There’s no greater joy than adding a pair of new, chunky, statement hoops to an already-chic outfit; it’s the best opportunity to infuse extra personality into your uniform.

The only problem? I live in New York. And New York apartments do not mesh well with lots of new. There is barely space for a bed or a sofa from one of the best home decor brands, let alone a new necklace or bracelet, but tiny. I’ve figured out some storage/display hacks here and there to keep my ever-growing collection from taking over the top of my dresser, but I know that so long as I live here, I won’t be able to indulge in the ultimate jewelry storage solution: the jewelry box.

The right jewelry box should be as elegant as the pieces it houses; just as your ring acts as decoration for your hand, the box itself should serve as decoration for your home. It should look intentional; it should curate a vintage
