While fashion emergencies aren’t anomalies on the red carpet (celebrities fit themselves into all kinds of couture ensembles for these high-profile moments), one reporter’s jewelry mishap at the 2024 Golden Globes, which took place on January 7, 2024 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California, went beyond a simple broken strap or stiletto heel. E! News reporter Keltie Knight, who hit the red carpet in a crystal-studded pink from Khaled & Marwan Couture, signed onto Instagram mid-event to share that the crown jewel of her ensemble, a four-carat diamond ring she’d been wearing on that finger, had suddenly gone missing—and she quickly called on the celebrities walking the red carpet with her for assistance.
“Hi everyone, Golden Globes emergency,” Knight said in a video posted to her feed, holding up her left hand to reveal an empty ring setting. “If you’re a celebrity and you see a four-carat diamond on the red carpet , please return it to Keltie Knight at E!, because it’s gone. And, um…it’s real.” While the host didn’t confirm whether or not the rock was part of her actual engagement ring from her husband Chris Knight, she was wearing the piece alongside her wedding band—and an Instagram Reel about her Golden Globes preparation process, which she posted later in the evening, showed her wearing the (intact) piece well before she got dressed, which made us think this ring, sadly, might be the real deal.
Unfortunately, the diamond still appears to be missing. Knight’s Instagram followers have taken to her recent posts to ask for updates and as of 11 pm last evening, the rock—which appears to be a cushion-cut diamond on a gold setting—was nowhere to be found. “Wait, the diamond is still there in this video! Last seen here!!” one user wrote. Another commended the host for carrying on with her red carpet responsibilities, noting that she would have been unable to interview celebrities under that kind of stress. “I wouldn’t be able to work. So sorry. I know it’s only material but really! Hope you find it,” another supporter wrote.
Knight has been doing some sleuthing on his own. According to her Instagram Stories, she knows the diamond was still on her finger during hair and makeup, because her team cleaned it—which means she most likely lost it in transport to the awards ceremony or on the red carpet. Another photo on her Stories shows the host down on her hands and knees, physically searching for the lost piece outside the Beverly Hilton.
We’ve done our research, too, and it appears that the diamond did make it onto the red carpet; photos taken early in the evening show the piece glittering safely on Knight’s hand. This means that the rock was lost at some point during the pre-awards show, as she mixed and mingled with the A-listers attending the party. While these searches haven’t (yet!) been fruitful, here’s hoping the sparkly piece shows up during the event’s breakdown today—our fingers are crossed!
